How it works

How a question becomes a record

Every poll goes through the same five steps. Each one leaves a trace you can check.

  1. 1001K10K100K1M10,000 people

    01

    Ask

Write a question and pay in $ZC. Choose how many holders it reaches, from 100 to a million, and how high it sits in the feed.

  2. signed · 0 gas

    02

    Answer

Hold $20 of ZC or SC at the block a poll opens and you can answer it. You sign, you don't pay gas. One answer per wallet.

    Fix

A minute after close, the result goes on Ethereum as a root over every signed answer. Then nobody, us included, can change it.

    Recount

Your browser downloads every answer and recounts the result against the root on-chain. The rules for the feed are one public file, its hash on-chain.

Where the ZC goes

ZC is spent. SC is owned.

Every poll is paid in ZC and split the moment its result is fixed. Two fifths of each payment leave the supply for good: one part burned as ZC, one part spent on SC and burned as SC.

From the book

It starts in chapter 27.

In Snowmoon, Vitalik Buterin's novel, a network answers questions people pay to ask. Silverchat builds it on Ethereum, with $ZC.

  1. In the bookPeople pay zipcoins to put a question to a broad slice of the network. Pay more, and more people hear it.

HerePay $ZC to ask. Breadth sets how many holders it reaches.

  2. In the bookClients check the proofs and reject any update that breaks the rules.

HereEach result root goes on Ethereum. Your browser recounts it.

  3. In the bookA new algorithm hash only counts after a twenty-day delay.

HereSilverAlgorithm holds the rules hash, with the same twenty days.

  4. In the bookVotes are anonymous. Results split by what people say about themselves.

HereAnswers are published without addresses. Region and age are optional.

Ours, not the book's: paying the people who answer, the $SC token, and the split of every payment.

The archive

Every print keeps its negative.

A fixed poll keeps its question, its count and the transaction that fixed it, for anyone to look up. Point at a negative to print it.
